A new tenure-track position in "Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine" has been created at the JKU School of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology. To establish and further develop this research group, we are seeking a highly motivated, dedicated, and passionate university assistant with a Diplom or Master's degree to take on the following responsibilities:

Job Duties:

  • Establishment and characterization of gradient hydrogels and drug-delivery systems for osteochondral tissue engineering, including release kinetics and degradation analyses
  • 2D and 3D culture of continuous and finite cell lines as well as primary cells; isolation of cells from human tissue; microtissue culture; differentiation of cells into various lineages
  • Conduct cellular and molecular analyses, e.g., ELISA, biocompatibility tests, qPCR, Western blot, flow cytometry, histology and fluorescence staining, confocal microscopy
  • Participation in small-animal experiments in compliance with the 3R principles
  • 3D cell culture in hydrogels in combination with solid scaffold structures to develop osteochondral tissue models
  • Long-term culture of cells and microtissues in hydrogels and solid scaffold materials in a knee bioreactor
  • Analysis, interpretation, and scientific documentation of experimental data
  • Publication of results in international peer-reviewed journals
  • Participation in national and international conferences and presentation of research findings
  • Participation in teaching, including co-supervision of bachelor's and master's students
  • Preparation of a doctoral thesis within the framework of the research project

Your Qualifications:

  • The candidate must have a completed Diploma/Master's degree in molecular biology, biology, medicine, biomedical sciences, or a related field
  • Solid experience in cell culture, especially handling primary cells
  • Strong knowledge in performing cellular and molecular assays
  • Experience with confocal microscopy and histological techniques
  • Practical experience in the fabrication and/or characterization of hydrogels
  • Proficiency in cell and molecular biology methods, e.g., qPCR, ELISA, Western blot, flow cytometry, histology, immunofluorescence staining, and confocal microscopy
  • Experience with 3D cell culture, cell-laden hydrogels, 3D bioprinting, or scaffold-based tissue engineering is an advantage
  • Willingness to participate in preclinical small-animal experiments in compliance with the 3Rs
  • Strong skills in data analysis, including image and quantitative data analysis
  • Experience in a clinical-biological environment
  • Knowledge of GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, MATLAB, etc., is an advantage
  • Independent, structured, and solution-oriented working style; strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work in a team, strong communication skills, and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary research
  • Good command of English (level B2) and good command of German (level B2)
