Position Overview

WU is currently inviting applications for the position of a full professor of Strategic Management at the Department of Strategy and Innovation. Candidates are expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in their field. Depending on the candidate’s academic credentials, the employment contract can be concluded either as a permanent employment contract or as a fixed-term employment contract with the option of a permanent extension.

The professorship will be positioned at the Institute of Strategic Management, part of the Department of Strategy and Innovation. The department fosters an entrepreneurial mindset across research, teaching, outreach, and executive education, maintaining a dynamic exchange between academia and business at national and international levels. With a quantitative, empirical focus, research integrates perspectives on entrepreneurship, innovation, organization design, corporate governance, and managerial decision making in strategy formulation and implementation. The aim of the professorship is to provide thought leadership in strategic management.

Qualifications

  • a) A solid academic qualification (e.g., PhD, habilitation) in strategic management.
  • b) An outstanding international reputation for high‑quality scholarship in strategic management, especially demonstrated by publishing in top‑tier management journals.
  • c) Substantial skills in applying quantitative empirical research methods.
  • d) Excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate levels, including executive education.
  • e) Proven international experience.
  • f) Active participation in the international scientific community (e.g., Academy of Management, Strategic Management Society) and a record of serving the scientific community.
  • g) A strong record in attracting research funding.
  • h) Leadership qualities.
  • i) Gender and diversity management skills.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • a) Perform teaching activities at all levels (bachelor’s, master’s, PhD/doctorate, and executive education), both in the classroom and in distance‑learning formats, providing 8 weekly credit hours.
  • b) Actively develop the Department’s Master’s Program in Strategy, Innovation, and Management Control.
  • c) Contribute to undergraduate teaching on Strategic Management, particularly in a Strategic Management major.
  • d) Take over leadership responsibilities at the Institute of Strategic Management.
  • e) Build and maintain collaborations with companies for research and teaching purposes.
  • f) Complement the Department’s profile in research, teaching, and third‑mission activities.
  • g) Take an active role in the university’s self‑governance and third‑mission activities.

Employment will be either permanent or for a fixed term, with the possibility of extension.

1. Employed under salary group A1 pursuant to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff, minimum gross yearly salary: €93,986.20; the actual annual gross salary is subject to negotiation.

2. The duration of fixed‑term contracts is subject to negotiation.
