Senior Scientist (Doctorate/PhD)

Job Description:

Your tasks:

• Independent scientific research in the field of dynamic meteorology with a focus on synoptic scales and storm tracks Acquisition of new research projects Publications in internationally recognised media
• Collaboration in teaching
• Supervision of students
• Collaboration in the context of academic self-administration
• Collaboration in the development and maintenance of the working group's software library

Your profile:

• Doctorate in a discipline of atmospheric sciences (such as meteorology, atmospheric physics, climatology) or a related discipline
• Sound knowledge of dynamic meteorology, especially on synoptic scales
• Knowledge of extratropical storms, jet streams and storm tracks is an advantage
• Knowledge of the interaction between weather and climate variability is an advantage
• Knowledge of diabatic processes, especially wet diabatic processes, and their influence on synoptic and planetary scales advantageous
• Ability to combine theory with data analysis of numerical simulations, reanalyses, or climate models an advantage
• Broad programming skills in at least one high-level programming language Knowledge of Fotran and Python an advantage
• Knowledge of the use of high-performance computing is an advantage
• Commitment to the planning, implementation and management of scientific projects
• Good written and spoken communication skills in English - command of German is an advantage
• Experience in university teaching; competence in supervising students; didactic competence
• Communication and teamwork skills
