Additive Manufacturing (AM) Application / Design Engineer (Full-time)

voestalpine High Performance Metals Corporation's business activities focus on technologically demanding products and solutions in the field of specialty steel. In contrast to many of its competitors, voestalpine High Performance Metals Corporation offers production, sales and important value added services such as heat treatment and coatings from a single hand. This extensive offering is valued by customers throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. Key markets include the automotive manufacturing sector, the energy generation sector, exploration of oil and gas, machinery manufacturers, consumer goods producers, aircraft manufacturers and other selected industry segments. voestalpine High Performance Metals Corporation is a market leader in tool steel and also holds leading positions in high-speed steel, valve steel, special engineering steel and other special grades. Customers can rely on well-established brands that have frequently set the standards for the special steel sector over many decades with their innovation and top quality.

Who we are

Additive manufacturing – popularly known as 3D printing – is one of the most innovative and revolutionary manufacturing methods. At voestalpine, we are implementing this new technology while making use of our in-house expertise to develop it further. Customers benefit from our leading-edge competence throughout the value chain, which ranges from powder development to the delivery of finished products. Additive manufacturing (AM) uses electric arc or laser technology to fuse fine metal powders and or wire into complex and high-strength components. Starting with three-dimensional CAD data, AM enables the wasteless production of even the most complex shapes.

With the use of conventional technologies like milling, drilling etc., such structures would be impossible to produce or would require extreme efforts. Simply put, “printers” manufacture the components layer by layer. Depending on the application, various methods (Powder Bed or Direct Deposition Process with powder or wire) are used. A crucial part of AM is using the correct process parameters for each type of printing machine and material. If a specific process parameter is not already available, we develop it in-house.

We are currently looking to fill an application / Design engineering position focused on additive manufacturing of metals with a person that is passionate about advancing metal powder-based additive technologies. This position offers a unique opportunity to support and advance the AM metals-based technology. The right person can help to support and execute upon a vision of a world-class additive manufacturing team. The candidate will be a part of a cross functional team of engineering, sales and customer support developing and executing a business plan to achieve growth in the 3D printing market.

Your Tasks

In performing this role, the AM Application / Design Engineer will require skills in operating additive manufacturing equipment, Project Engineering, Design, Manufacturing Engineering and other AM specific topics. The Additive Application Engineer will support the Additive Manufacturing Systems daily operations with regard to equipment care, operation, maintenance, calibration and supporting powder parameter development activities. The AM Engineer will be responsible for Quoting, Project Management, Project Execution, Organizational Support or all of these tasks for a given project depending on the size and complexity of the project or projects. The position will help our customers to provide cost effective solutions on their next generation components or platforms.
