University Assistant (postdoc)

Job Description:

Your tasks:

  • Independent research in sedimentology and stratigraphy using scientific drill core analyses
  • Independent development and teaching of courses and examinations in the field of sedimentology and stratigraphy
  • Supervision of students including supervision of bachelor theses
  • Active contribution to academic self-administration including general research, teaching and administrative tasks, scientific communication)
  • Expansion of collaborations within the Austrian Core Facility for scientific drill core analyses
  • Active pursuit of professional development through continued learning and skill enhancement in higher education

Your profile:

  • Completed doctorate in Earth sciences or a related fields
  • Relevant scientific achievements beyond the dissertation
  • Proven research experience and international visibility in the field of sedimentology and stratigraphy, documented by publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences
  • Expertise in scientific core analyses and stratigraphic correlation from experience in handling large core data sets from international scientific drilling projects.
  • Several months or longer professional mobility experience during or after the doctorate/PhD and established research collaborations with international partners beyond the dissertation location
  • Experience with third-party funding/projects (acquisition, management)
  • Didactic skills and experience in academic teaching and in the (co-)supervision of Bachelor's/Master's theses
  • Excellent English prficiency (written and spoken); German language skills are advantagous
  • Organisational skills
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Application documents: CV; letter of motivation (max. 2 pages); short research concept including an outlook on planned research activities at the Institute of Geology at the University of Innsbruck (max. 2 pages)
