University Assistant (PhD position)

Start date/duration:

  • for 4 years

Administrative unit:

  • Department of Translation Studies

Extent of employment:

  • 20 hours per week; will be increased to 30 hours per week once the dissertation agreement has been signed

Job Description:

Your tasks:

  • Writing the PhD Thesis in the field of Interpreting studies
  • Independent research-led teaching; participation in examinations for conference interpreting
  • Participation in interpreting research projects; participation in the application process for third-party funded projects
  • further education (participation in conferences and training courses)
  • Assistance by administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Above-average diploma, MA or comparable degree in conference interpreting
  • convincing concept of a dissertation project in the field of conference interpreting (a concept of 3-5 pages must be attached to the application documents)
  • Competence in German: level C2; competence level C2 in another language, preferably French or Russian
  • Desirable: experience as a conference interpreter and university teaching experience in conference interpreting
  • Ability to work in a team, independence, critical faculties

The minimum gross salary (stipulated by collective agreement) for 20 hours per week amounts to € 1.857 per month (14 times)*. The salary will be increased to € 2.785 for 30 hours per week once the dissertation agreement has been signed and sent to the Personnel Department. The salary will be higher if you have worked in a similar position before.
