Job Description:

The

Department of Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies

is searching for a University Assistant (Post-Doc) (40 h/week) (Employment for the period of six years, starting on January 1st, 2025; a qualification agreement can be offered.)

In this position you will have the opportunity to carry out high level research and to specialise in a particular field. You will hold your own lectures, tutor students and participate in administration. During the first year of employment it is possible to conclude a 'qualification agreement' which is the core part of a University career position. If the terms of the qualification agreement are fullfilled it will lead to a continuous career at the University, resulting in the position of an Associate Professor and a permanent employment.

Responsibilities

:

• Implementation of a clearly defined research programme with the aim of habilitation
• Interdisciplinary research within the framework of the thematic fields of the Cluster of Excellence EurAsian Transformations
• Independent high-quality research-led teaching
• Participation in administrative and organisational tasks

Required qualifications

:

• Completed doctoral studies in the field of Ancient History
• Academic expertise in the fields of Ancient Historiography and Comparative Empire History of the 1st millennium BCE (preferably with a focus on the Achaemenid-Persian Empire)
• Experience with collaborative research
• Several months of relevant professional experience after the dissertation/PhD (at least 24 months)
• Relevant scientific achievements beyond the dissertation/PhD
• Relevant publication activity
• Successful acquisition of third-party funding
• Experience in teaching, submission of a teaching concept
• Good German and English language skills
• Two letters of recommendation
• Description of a research project at habilitation level
• Creative problem-solving skills, communication, teamwork and conflict resolution capabilities

The vacant post offers a continuous scientific career up to an associate professor. A key component of this tenure track model is the so called "Qualifizierungsvereinbarung" (qualification agreement). An initial salary of € 4.752 p.m.^* shall be offered for this position. In the following, the conclusion of the qualification agreement will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.124 p.m.^* and the fulfilment of the agreed qualification objectives will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.546 p.m.^*. All mentioned salaries are monthly gross salaries, paid 14 times p.a.
