Position

for 1 PhD Student: „Coagulation inhibitors as a possible cause for bleeding in patients with bleeding of unknown cause”

In the majority of patients with mild to moderate bleeding tendency often no underlying cause is found (bleeding of unknown cause, BUC). In recent years two bleeding disorders have been identified, in which an increased activity of endogenous coagulation inhibitors has led to increased bleeding tendency.

In the centre for bleeding disorders of the Clinical Division of Hematology and Hemostaseology of the Medical University of Vienna, we have investigated possible causes of bleeding in patients with mild to moderate bleeding tendency since 2009 in the framework of the Vienna Bleeding Biobank by collecting clinical data and storing samples in order to enable further investigations and insights.

In the framework of this project, which has also been funded by the Jubiläumsfonds grant of the OeNB, the importance and role of endogenous coagulation inhibitors in relation to bleeding shall be investigated, particularly for BUC patients.

We offer one full (30 hours/week) PhD student position in the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Research Group for three years, supervised by Assoc. Prof. Priv. Doz. Dr. Johanna Gebhart and Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ingrid Pabinger ().

On account of the clinical focus of this PhD position, involving patient contact, an (almost) completed medicine degree programme is prerequisite for this job. Applicants should furthermore be interested in hematology and coagulation and have a passion for science and research; knowledge on statistical evaluations is desirable. We also expect fluent German and English .

Our scientific group cooperates with many national and international partners. The PhD study is conducted within the framework of the PhD program of the Medical University of Vienna. The monthly gross salary is based on the collective labour agreement of the Medical University of Vienna and amounts to EUR /30 weekly hours.

Please send your application with CV and highest diploma certificate to:
