The Corporate Counsel (m/f/d) will be a key member of the EMEA legal function, providing cross-regional internal legal support on a wide range of matters. The initial focus of this role is set on the DACH Region and Germany but based on the Team’s harmonization and shared services strategy the reach of this role will be expanded to other EMEA regions as needed. The focus of the role will be general commercial work, including advising on a wide range of commercial contracts, compliance and regulatory issues (in particular Medtech Europe) and day to day claims and disputes. The Corporate Counsel will also be required to provide ad-hoc advice on other legal matters (e.g. data privacy and competition law) and to take an active role in the Team’s digitalization strategy by supporting / managing IT systems. The Corporate Counsel will report to EMEA Regional Senior Corporate Counsel DACH and work closely with other lawyers in the EMEA legal team, as well as Division Counsel across all Thermo Fisher businesses to provide high quality and comprehensive legal advice and assistance on EMEA matters. The Corporate Counsel will also work closely with other functions across EMEA, including Finance, Procurement, IP, Quality and Regulatory.


What will you do?

  • Draft various agreements for all parts of the organisation in support of their objectives, including sales agreements, strategic supply agreements, collaboration / joint venture agreements, IT agreements, co-marketing agreements; term sheets, etc. deal with all kinds of marketing inquiries, in particular, if they relate to MedTech Europe compliance; deal with MedTech Europe matters
  • Take an active role in the Team’s digitalization and harmonization strategy, by supporting resp. improving existing IT tools and / or supporting the roll-out of new IT tools for the Team
  • Consult with other parts of the organisation on the interpretation of the agreements in effect or in development.
  • Participate in the resolution of a wide range of business, contractual, financial and operational issues.
  • Educate and train employees on their obligations under the terms of various contracts and under applicable legal requirements.
  • Work with other members of the EMEA Legal team and the various divisions with a presence in EMEA to manage a wide range of commercial contracts, focussing on more complex agreements and covering a broad spectrum of operational business issues
  • Work collaboratively with Division Counsel across all Groups and on various EMEA matters and initiatives.


  • How will you get here?
  • Qualified as a lawyer in Germany or Austria from an internationally recognised University / law school. Being comfortable/experienced with delivering legal advice in all of DACH.
  • Strong working knowledge of the German/Austrian legal system. Further international expertise is a plus.
  • Good IT knowledge; interest in dealing with / exploring Legal solutions software
  • First experiences as a lawyer, preferably in-house or in a full-service international law firm, representing life science, fast moving consumer goods, other relevant regulated-sector companies.
  • Strong commercial awareness and business sense, including the ability to fully engage with and influence business stakeholders.
  • Strong experience in contract and licence negotiation/ drafting and general intellectual property law.
  • Ability to develop practical processes/approaches, and to drive solutions to completion.
  • Strong ‘Can Do Attitude’, contributor mentality and high motivation required; ability to deal with an ever changing, complex business environment; excellent communication/negotiation skills, robust and enthusiastic self-starter, excellent team player.
  • Fluent in spoken and written German and English (additional European language(s) an advantage).
  • Occasional travel within EMEA.
