Your Tasks

The Foundry Metallurgist/Casting Engineer will utilize process control and simulation tools to insure the production of consistently high quality castings.  In addition, the position will design and carry out test trials targeting product and process improvement.

Your Profile

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foundry methods – develop and implement rigging for optimizing quality and cost.  Oversee 1st article approval from pattern through finished casting including dimensional and radiographic evaluations.
  • Design and conduct trials to test and validate improved methods of rigging, molding, melting, heat treating, and pouring of castings. 
  • Develop and perform process audits to maintain process control.
  • Perform and/or supervise sand, metallographic, and spectro-chemical analysis testing.
  • Perform failure analyses on manganese steel and ductile iron castings to determine the cause of failure.
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance related to the troubleshooting and solution of product performance and production process problems.
  • Motivate employees toward very high goals in a dynamic and challenging environment while mentoring employees in specific technical areas.
  • Develop and foster constructive relationships with customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • This position requires a degreed metallurgist with 5+ years of recent experience in a steel foundry in a foundry engineering or technical position preferred.
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills along with good oral and written communication skills.
  • This position reports to the foundry technical manager and is intended to groom the successor to the technical manager position.  Therefore good interpersonal skills are needed.
  • The successful candidate must be highly technology driven and proficient with the various melting and casting technologies.  Experience with SolidCast solidification simulation software is a plus.
